ASKfm Celebrates Global Safer Internet Day 2015

Safer Internet Day 2015 is here and ASKfm is proud to be sponsoring the annual US awareness campaign hosted by ConnectSafely.org, a leading voice and resource for helping Internet users make safer choices online.

Safer Internet Day is critical for both our industry and Internet users all over the world, and we want to do our part to support it in any way we can to make the Internet a better, safer place for everyone.

I will be speaking at Safer Internet Day’s “Beyond Bullying: Dealing with Trolling and Social Cruelty” panel at Facebook. Exploring this area of cyberbullying with youth leaders, educators, policy makers, parents and peers from world-renowned technology brands perfectly maps to ASKfm’s collaborative approach to online safety.

While Safer Internet Day US is hosted on the Facebook campus in Menlo Park this year, ASKfm’s safety efforts extend far beyond its US-based audience. In Europe, ASKfm has joined efforts with leading child advocacy group Childnet, organizers of Safer Internet Day in the UK. And if you haven’t done so already, check out ASKfm’s #nobullies social media campaign at ASKfm/2015SID. Join us as we help raise overall awareness of Safer Internet Day and to take a stand against online bullying by saying something nice about a friend on social media along with #nobullies. We’ve already reached more than 2.5M people and we want to keep that momentum of online positivity going. It just goes to show that – when given the platform – kindness can trump bullying and we’re dedicated to spread that message on Safer Internet Day and ongoing.

Since acquiring the company last summer, the new leadership at ASKfm has continued to make great strides on improving the overall safety of the ASKfm experience. From hiring online safety experts and forming a Safety Advisory Board, to revamping our Safety Center (which just launched yesterday!), we want to make sure our users benefit from the best resources to help guide their online experience.

Looking forward to an amazing day!
